Lots of people have been asking about the food in quarantine. The hotel staff delivers 3 meals (and 1 snack) a day. And while the overall variety and quality are not what you would find in a high-end restaurant, the food is overall very good.

Here's a sampling of the meals. The picture collages are designed to give you an idea of what the food looks like. They are certainly not worthy of the idafrosk Instagram account belonging to Norwegian-born food artist Ida Skivenes and her 325k+ followers. Her photos are truly amazing.

Breakfast is generally some cold cuts, bread, vegetables, cheese, a hard boiled egg, and either a caviar paste or mackerel in tomato sauce pate.

Quarantine breakfast. I don't recommend the mackerel in tomato sauce pate.
Lunch has been varied with chicken cesar salad, Swedish meatballs, salmon and pasta, and baguettes with chicken, pesto, and cheese.

Lunch - the best and most consistent meal of the day.
Dinner has been a little more hit and miss. Chicken breast in a sauce, a chicken patty sandwich with salad, and a "taco salad" that consisted of Texas chili over white rice with some lettuce and a Doritos garnish. And chocolate cake for dessert

Quarantine dinner. They have given new meaning to the definition of a "taco salad."
I am certainly not starving. I especially appreciate the snack of fresh melon and other fruit every afternoon because I know that after several weeks on a ship, fresh fruit and vegetables will be a rarity. Hopefully, I'll be able to try some more authentic Norwegian food between quarantine and boarding the ship.

Thanks for posting, Jon! Yes, I would say that lunch would be my favorite meal there. With regards to sampling some "more authentic" Norwegian food - you'll have to let us know how that goes. Likely, more fish! Also, do you know whether you will be having Russian fare when you are on the ship? Are you able to go outside and walk/run? Are you having any Zoom calls with your team while quarantining? Take care!

Wow. That food looks fairly typical for hotel food and the fish in a tin is likely typical for Scandinavia. Was it fishy tasting? I remember picking up tins of pate to try while backpacking, but then it looked too much like cat food, so I had to toss it. It is very interesting to see the setup for you and also what they are providing for your meals. What have you been doing for the two hour break each day? Hope the weather is agreeable. Thanks for sharing!

The food did look a bit like cat food, but it was ok. The caviar was better than the mackerel. I'm sure you've seen from my next journal that I'be been trying to get lots of fresh air.
