The STAR (STEM Teacher and Researcher) Program prepares preservice teachers for the classroom by offering opportunities to do research in national laboratories and providing professional development that brings the experience into the classroom. As an alumni of this program, I was invited to join 77 STAR fellows, 5 alumni, and 40 additional attendees, including STAR workshop leaders, lab site coordinators, STAR alumni, and friends and family. The conference took place at NASA Ames and the 49ers Museum in San Jose, California.

It was such a humbling experience to be surrounded by so many passionate and energetic young teachers that were excited to share resources and experiences from teacher research opportunities. This was such an inspiring group of young people who will be taking on important roles as teacher researchers in the near future. I am excited to share this journey with them and with their students as they follow the research being done at the South Pole this winter.
