Getting Straight Up Polar!

    Ideas
Awesome ideas for integrating science into the classroom.

Our 2nd day of orientation began with sun, snow, and lots of lovely science information coming our way! We were fortunate enough to have Sarah Hardy from University of Alaska share all about Arctic research, and Samantha Hansen all about Antarctic research. I was pretty jazzed to realize how much goes into Antarctic research, and that 42 countries have a stake in the continent. She shared a super-rich presentation that's attached below; check it out!

Look how many countries are involved in Antarctica!

Next Heidi Roop from the United States Geological Society shared educational outreach activities from the researcher's perspectives, with some key ideas to involve your researcher, and to share events, pictures, and other stories from your classroom because it's much appreciated. NSF made a fantastic video highlighting the "life" aspect of Antarctic research, replete with ice-golfing and funny tiger outfits to keep things sane! The rest of the day was filled with evaluations, program requirements, and brownies! The amount of idea sharing was awesome, and the Alumni continued to be of incomparable help.
