Trail to Field SIte Cabin
I'm on a morning walk on the trail from the field site cabin (background) where I am staying for the next month with researcher Elizabeth Webb and Field Technician John Krapek.

The LI-COR sensor only needs to be calibrated once a season, however since the program on it had been changed it needed to be recalibrated again. The LI-COR is calibrated by setting the sensor to zero CO2 (scrubbing the sample with soda-lime mixture which removes all CO2) then setting it at a known concentration of CO2 (in tank).

    Calibrating the LI-COR
John Krapek calibrating the LI-COR sensor (our main instrument used in measuring CO2 concentration) prior to leaving for the research site.

Ready to head to Research Site

    At the CiPEHR research site
Elizabeth and John are downloading data from the HOBO weather station at the CiPEHR (Carbon in Permafrost Experimental Heating Project) research site at Eight Mile Lake near Healy, AK.
