Today was a mix of being a tourist and working on science. Two teams traveled together north on the Dalton Highway to Prudhoe Bay. This is the farthest north on can travel on a U.S. highway. Along the way we were treated to a show of Alaskan wildlife.
A herd of musk ox were in a field, rolling on the tundra to shed some winter fur. The musk ox are unlike any other animal I have seen before.
We saw countless caribou grazing and running the tundra. This looked like a scene from a movie about a naturalist in Alaska studying wolf. The first person who correctly identifies the movie wins a pencil from Dead Horse, Alaska.
We also saw while walking to the river to collect water. The fox followed ahead, looking back to check on our group.
After many days of rain, it was great to be outside under blue skies.
