Abundant Life on the TundraA treeless area between the icecap and the tree line of arctic regions, having a permanently frozen subsoil and supporting low-growing vegetation such as lichens, mosses, and stunted shrubs.

My biggest surprise when arriving at Toolik Field Station and walking into a tundra field is that the ground is covered in plants. I expected barren soil, and am surprised to see a carpet of flowers, shrubs, and bushes. Here is a video of flowers seen after crossing the Arctic Circle. I welcome additions and corrections to plant identifications.
