Design an Expedition Flag

This is your chance to design a flag for an Antarctic Research Expedition! Winners will see their design turned into a flag flown from the Research Vessel Nathaniel B. Palmer. After our expedition returns, winners will receive the actual flag they designed that was flown in Antarctica!

How to Enter: 1. Download the flag template fly_your_flag_in_antarctica_art_contest.pdf. In the provided area, design and draw a flag that you think best represents Antarctic Research or our research expedition. You can decorate the flag with what you think we might discover in East Antarctica, how the Antarctic impacts you and our world oceans, or whatever you think is best! Feel free to explore our expedition and the PolarTREC website for ideas. A few suggestions: - Keep the design simple - Use two or three basic colors - If you use words, make sure it’s legible - Make it your own unique design!

    1. Submit your entry, with your name and a return mailing address, to:

All entries must be received by February 1, 2015.

    1. Follow this journal! Winners will be announced and photos of their flags being flown from the research vessel in Antarctic waters will be posted here!

Five winning designs will be selected by members of the expedition team. The winning designs will be printed on cloth flags that will be flown from our research vessel in Antarctica. Winners will be announced during the expedition between April and May 2015 on the PolarTREC website. After the completion of the expedition, the flags that were flown in Antarctica will be mailed back to the winners, using their provided address (address will only be used to notify winners). Unfortunately, we can’t be responsible for lost or late mail. Please be sure to get us your entries on time and to send us your correct address.

I look forward to seeing your amazing designs!
