The big building at Summit Station is called the Big House. This building is heated Inside. There is a kitchen for cooking our meals and tables for everyone to eat meals and to relax. Every morning, at 8 a.m., we would have our morning meeting where the camp manager would give us the weather report and other helpful information. In the winter time, this building will almost get covered in snow because of the snowfall and the wind blowing the snow. It is on stilts so that the building can be raised next spring.
There is also a shower and a washing machine for our clothes. Since we have to melt the snow to get liquid water, we conserve water. So, that means we take one shower every week and do laundry once every 10-14 days.
The freezer is actually a big trench dug into the snow underneath the Big House! Let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks.
