NOAA Teacher at Sea ??
Submitted by Elizabeth Eubanks on July 3, 2008 - 7:00pm.HI Jillian,
Welcome to your expedition! I am so excited for you. Photos are great.
Please tell me 3 things that are the same about your NOAA Teacher at Sea adventure compared to this expedition.
What is something you really look forward to about this trip.
Have a blast and I look forward to reading your journals.

PS - keep up with the quotes - I love them! I have many favorites of my own!
Life aboard the ship
Submitted by Guest on July 3, 2008 - 5:05pm.What an interesting ride around Unalaska. And what complicated equipment you showed us. Now tell us a little about the daily life aboard the ship. Do you have a room mate? More than one? What kind of food is served? Is it served all day long? How long are your working day? How cold is it outside?

Who's your roomies and what deck?
Submitted by Maggie Prevenas on July 3, 2008 - 2:38pm.Hi Jillian!
Cool, cool, cool. I relive every single moment through reading your journals.
So how many people in your room? Who are your roomies? Which bed did you pick?
Is there still going to be burn detail? Believe it or not, I still have the good luck lighter that I used to light the garbage. Hope all is well with you and all the scientists and crew. I send you all warm aloha!
warmly,
Maggie

Art museum in Anchorage airport
Submitted by Maggie Prevenas on June 30, 2008 - 10:18am.Aloha Jillian,
I did not realize you were still in Arizona! That means today is a traveling day. I hope you get to stop and walk through the beautiful native art museum in the airport in Anchorage. Tell me what is your favorite piece?

Maggie
Martin's question
Submitted by Guest on June 29, 2008 - 3:51pm.Hi Jillian,
Martin is excited about your trip to the arctic. His first question is:
How many polar bears have you seen?
John wants to know is it cold since it's summer there. And what kind of birds have you seen?
Hope your journey there was a safe one,
Jean

Warm greetings from Maui
Submitted by Maggie Prevenas on June 29, 2008 - 10:11am.Aloha Jillian!
As I read your journals, I am transported back a year and two months to when snow covered the Unalaskan Hills. Such an emerald green they are now! Such a joy to go walking through the grasses!
I will bet you are staying at the Grand Aleutian and enjoying their delicious Sunday Brunch. The food on the Healy does rival the Grand Aleutian, honest it does. I was totally amazed at how the head chef can order food supplies for a five week mission. Right up until the very last meal, it was yummy :)
You are about to depart on a life changing experience, and I will be reading your every word!
I would like to know the different research experiments onboard. Will Dr. Ray continue his experiments in growing the algae? If so, will the seawater the Healy samples, be compared and contrasted with the water used in last years experiements in April and May?
I am also most interested in knowing the genera of algae he is seeing at this time of year.
One last question before I leave you is about the effects of ocean acidification in the Bering Sea. Will any of the scientists study pH and associated changes in phytoplankton and zooplankton?
Thank you so much for seeing to my questions. I am watching and reading all about your mission and hope it is most wonder-full for you all!
warmly,
Maggie

Almost Leaving Time
Submitted by Craig Beals on June 27, 2008 - 2:11pm.Hello Jillian!
I asked Elizabeth these questions before she left...I thought it would be fun to hear your replies as well!
What are you most excited for?
What are you most scared about?
What is one thing that you absolutely HAVE to do while you are on the boat!
What are you taking for "creature comforts"?
I am sure I will have plenty of questions during your stay!
Stay Warm!!
Craig Beals (we will all be following along from Summit Camp!)
The Animals
Submitted by Guest on June 14, 2008 - 10:34am.Jillian,
If you had to save some of the species of the bering sea, what would you do to save them, and is there a possibility that you would have to change their location altogether?

Your Class's Work
Submitted by Kristin Timm on April 30, 2008 - 11:25am.Wow! It looks like your class is doing some really fun things Jillian! We are jealous of the 60 degree weather, it is snowing again here. :(
I was wondering if you will be bringing your water testing kit with you to Alaska when you come? If you have layovers in Anchorage or Dutch Harbor you could look at freshwater there.
Kristin
