After a competitive review process the author was selected as a participant for the 2014–2015 Antarctic field season of PolarTREC, a professional development program geared to teachers and funded by the National Science Foundation.

In January 2015 he traveled to the Amundsen–Scott South Pole station to conduct maintenance and support work at the IceCube Neutrino Observatory—a memorable experience which is the subject of this book.

The text is profusely illustrated with 284 full-color images, mostly original photography made by the author during his 18-day stay in Antarctica.

The author is an astronomy educator who has taught at all academic levels. He lives, works and writes in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Tras un proceso altamente competitivo el autor fue seleccionado para trabajar en el continente antártico como participante de PolarTREC, programa para educadores auspiciado por la Fundación Nacional para la Ciencia de los Estados Unidos.

El texto viene acompañado de abundantes ilustraciones. Se reproducen 284 imágenes a todo color, en su mayoría fotografías obtenidas por el autor durante sus 18 días en la Antártida.

El autor es astrónomo especializado en enseñanza y divulgación, con experiencia docente en todos los niveles académicos. Reside, trabaja y escribe en San Juan, Puerto Rico.
