2013-2014 PolarTREC Researcher Application

Thank you for your interest in hosting a teacher on your field research project. Your commitment to linking polar research with education is an important contribution to both the research and education communities and the goals of the National Science Foundation (NSF). PolarTREC will use the information you provide in your application to select research projects and teachers that match in interest and availability. If your project is selected, you will be asked to review 5-10 teacher applications and interview the top applicants for your project. We anticipate interviews being conducted in November-December 2012 with final matches being made before January 2013.

Deadline:The deadline of 3 September 2012 has passed HOWEVER we are still accepting applications from researchers to host a teacher. Please contact the PolarTREC Project Managers (info [at] polartrec [dot] com) to let us know where and when you'd like to host a teacher and we'll let you know if you should fill out an application or not.

Application Instructions:

Please read all of the application questions before filling out the online form. Information submitted online will not be saved in the form for later editing or additions. If you need to make changes to your application, you will have the opportunity to do so via email after you submit your application. If you would like, you may download the Microsoft Word application below, fill in your responses, and then copy and paste them into the web form.
We prefer that applicants already have secured funding for their research project. However, if your request for funding is pending you can still apply to host a teacher. If this is your case, please contact the PolarTREC Project Managers at info [at] polartrec [dot] com to discuss your individual situation.
Answer each question as thoroughly as possible. We will contact you if additional information is needed.

Note: This person must be in the field at least part of the time with the teacher. This person will be working directly with the teacher both before, during, and post field experience and must be fully involved in the selection of the teacher. This person might be the PI but could also be a graduate student or co-PI.

Note: Having funding for a teacher included in your grant is not required. However, if researchers have extra funding for a teacher we are sometimes able to support more than our 12 allotted research projects and teachers per year.

Note: Naming a specific teacher is not required. Researchers and teachers interested in working exclusively with one another will be asked to complete a set of supplementary questions and will both be subject to the full PolarTREC Selection Process. Supplementary questions do not have to be submitted at the same time as the application, but must arrive before the application deadline.

We prefer that teachers participate in research experiences for three or more continuous weeks. Most teachers cannot participate in a project for more than 6-8 weeks.
