26 hours of air travel over more than 3 days and I am glad to be home with my family.

Because our flight out of Antarctica was delayed one day, I had a chance to explore McMurdo Station and go hiking on a glacier
After thousands of miles and 7 weeks, the last day and the last mile are the longest.

With the TransAntarctic Mountains on one side and the active volcanoe of Mt. Erebus and Ross Island on the other, McMurdo Sound is the most beautiful place I have ever seen.
Antarctica is about as far as you can get from sources of pollution like industries and forest fires, but black carbon soot is still falling and being measured in the snow here.
