Yes, the ice is melting. You can see examples everywhere. They will be "closing" the ice to large vehicles in the next day or two. The surface is all slushy. As the temperatures are increasing the ice is cracking in lots of places.
A man died on the ice in the 1950's and they named the airfield here after him. There haven't been any deaths recently but several vehicles have gotten stuck or even sunk into the ice.
