Um, I wouldn't say I was scared...at least not that time. I was scared, though, when I was out on the Point in the evening with some friends because I realized I couldn't get away if I needed to.

Welcome to Barrow! We're in NARL Hut 267 and BARC Lab B. If I'm not in the field or downtown, the I'm at BASC, UTEP's (Hut 268), or hanging out on the beach watching the sunset. You have my cell, so feel free to call or it might be easier to just radio me on Channel 1 since...{read more}
Hi Alexa!
I can only talk about the differences I see in the control versus the experimental plots. The plants in the experimental plots seem to be taller than those in the control plots. This could be because the open-top chamber acts as a greenhouse and the plants prefer warm weather. I...{read more}
Yes there have been tons of mosquitoes; however since the sun started setting they've been less of a problem because it's so much colder now. Lately the highs have been in the 30's cold.......so not too many mosquitoes. No, I haven't seen the aurora because we do not get enough darkness yet and...{read more}
Do I have a favorite plant? Hmmmmmm.....I have a soft spot in my heart for Ranunculis nivalis, because it was the first plat I learned. I like the cuteness of Saxafraga cernua. Poa artica has become my favorite graminoid (grass). I just saw some purple flowers that I love; however, I don't know...{read more}
Yep, you found me. I'm in 267! I'm sitting on the reclining couch now and just opened the coffee table at your suggestion and yes, there's some interesting stuff: a German magazine, PC Welt (another German magazine), Anansi Kids, a Vanity Fair from 2008, a 2010: Odyssey two, Rose Daughter, and...{read more}
Yep, I'm seeing lots of lichen and I'm a likein' it. Lichen is by far one of the coolest things up here and there's so many species. They grow in many places that other plants can't because they're more tolerant of dryness. My favorite lichen is Dactylina arcitca. I'll post a picture of one for...{read more}
I'm a little unclear about your question. However, I've noticed many things up here in the Arctic Tundra.
It is a very cold region where there are no trees but completely covered with vegetation. There are mosses, which are very spongy. There are lichens and they are generally pretty dry...{read more}
Although you can't see the effects just by looking at the scenery, the warming trend is definitely much faster in the Arctic. Rob says that the hard part is teasing apart what you would expect see happening normally due to the fact that we are exiting an ice age and under a global warming effect...{read more}
