Hi Nell,

I enjoyed your journal yesterday about the Polish research station, and was surprised today to see that Poland is not a part of the Antarctica Treaty - do you know why it is not? Do each of the other countries have permanent bases in Antarctica?

We're having a snow squall right now, but next week it's supposed to be spring-like! I hope you have good weather during the remainder of your crossing.

Hi Tami,Poland has ratified the Antarctic Treaty. Leaving it off the list was a mistake- thanks for catching it! The book I got most of my facts from is a little bit out of date, so I was building my list from a couple different places. I'll have to fix that! Yes, each of the other countries have permanent bases (or proposals for them- like Pakistan, for example) in Antarctica.
We have beautiful weather in the Strait of Magellan today. After I finish computer stuff I'm headed out on deck! :)
Have a good day,
Nell
