Yes, you can feel the temperature of the water, BUT - truthfully, when you first get in, it actually feels quite good (except for your face - that just stings!). I find that I get quite warm getting into all the gear; it's bulky, so I tend to sweat a little bit putting it all on. So, jumping into the water actually doesn't feel too bad (again - except the face - that stings!). I tend to stay quite comfortable for about 25 minutes, then start to feel a little bit cool. After about 30-35 minutes, my feet start to get cold - then the rest of me gets cold quite quickly.
