There are LOTS of ice sheets! The glaciers move which can cause stress fractures to form. These fractures are breaks in the ice. Although the ice does "break" quite regularly, I'm not sure I would say it happens easily! These are massive sheets of ice; it takes a huge amount of pressure to make them break.
