Was it possible to get a sense from the plane how much of King George Island is glaciated? Do you know what if any significant change occurs from season to season or year to year?

Hi! We actually are not on King George Island yet; we will be in Punta Arenas, Chile, until Wednesday morning. When we do fly to King George Island, though, we will be traveling in a Hercules military plane. This means that unfortunately, we won't have any windows to look out of. We won't be able to give you a first-hand account of the extent of the glaciation, but we will ask researchers about the changes in the glaciers from year to year and get back to you!

Claire: Thanks so much for the response. Sorry to hear about the windowlessness of the plane! But certainly travel by Hercules military plane will also be interesting albeit in different ways.
