Craig,

WOW! “This is not a drill”

You are really going and you will stop for a day in Upstate New York about 2 hours from me. Don’t forget socks. I wish there was a way that I could get a chance to see you while you are in the Albany area but I imagine that you will be a very busy guy. I have tried to imagine all of the mental, logistical and emotional gymnastics you have been going through as the departure date approaches. The needs and concerns of your students, your wife, your family, your school and your wife (did I say “wife” twice?) must be like a whirling storm around you. Don’t forget your camera. My wife and daughter call me a “PolarTREC stalker” because I like to spend a few minutes every day checking up on everyone’s journals and I have to admit I am very eager to follow your expedition. Don’t forget a hat or two. You know that I am jealous of how you will get to go “camping” but on the Oden I will be stuck in a heated cabin…with 2 saunas. Don’t forget underwear. I do have one piece of advice, every time someone describes your experience in Greenland as “once in a lifetime” remember that it is only a reconnaissance trip for all of your future exotic adventures.

Take care and make memories!

Jeff

Jeff!  Good to hear from you! This will be my first time to NY, unfortunately I won't get to see much of it!  I arrive around 8pm and we will leave for Stratton Air Base (via cab) at 4:00am!  That is 2am MY TIME!
Two saunas on the ODEN?  That already sounds dreamy and I'm not even cold... yet.  I checked the summitcamp.org website and today is the first day it is above 0 deg F.  It is up to 1.7 deg F!!!  HEAT WAVE!
Stay Warm!!
