Hi -

I am really enjoying reading your journal entries. The ship looks huge. How hard is it to get around on the ship? Does it help to be short? What is your sleeping berth like? Can you get a good night's sleep? What are your work hours and what types of things to you do?

I don't want to ask too many questions, but it is all so fascinating. Have fun and I can't wait to hear all about your adventure.

The ship is huge! I took me a day to figure the best routes to move around on the ship. Sometimes the fastest route is not the shortest route. Plus to go from the bridge, where the command center of the ship is up 4 flights of stairs, to the back, one has to go up and down several flights of stairs to go to the science lab which is located near the back deck. I still have yet to go everywhere - there is just so many science measurements and sampling events I don't want to miss!I am one of the lucky ones to have one of the bigger berths, or sleeping cabins. It is still relatively small, measuring 10' x 10'. I share the room with one other person, some folks have 3 or 4 in their berths, and we share a bathroom with another room with 2 people in it.
It does help to be less than 7' (Shaq would have a tough time!) but 6' people can maneuver as well as someone 5'!
I generally am up from 7am - 1pm. I have been helping with all of the benthic or bottom measurements at the stern of the ship from 1130am - 1130pm. It is pretty cool to look over the edge next to the waterline! But, I have been able to help out with most everyone when they need it and where they need it. A great thing about being the teacher on board!
