i have 2 questions

1. Are you just in Alaska or in other places in the Arctic?

2. Do the birds in Alaska migrate during winter?

Hi Amy,
Yep I was only in the Arctic. But the guys I was working with go all over - to the Everglades, Costa Rica ( I want to go there!).

Yes most of the birds migrate during the winter the Ptarmigan (p is silent) stays around though and lives under the snow!
Thanks Amy!
Peace and Love to you from the Tropics,

OMG Costa Rica sounds like so much fun! You should totally go for next little super science teacher adventure if you get the chance.
haha i love that name Ptarmigan!
Do they stay under the snow for like their entire lives or do they come out at all?

Hi Amomillee!
Yep they come out after the snow starts to melt a little - during the time we would have spring. They are white then and then when all the snow melts they become brownish.
If you look through my photo journal you can see a photo of one!
See you really soon!
