Pink Crocs are in Chile!

Well, The first leg of my trip has progressed wonderfully. I am in Santiago, Chile Waiting for the next leg of this amazing journey.

Leaving Flagstaff, Arizona for the Southern Ocean. Life is grand!
I am leaving on a jet plane, see you in a bit Flagstaff, Arizona

I am almost 24 hours in and am sure what I feel is the adrenaline of travel. Slept a bit on the plane last night, was super lucky to have two seats to myself, it was perfect. I have met part of the research team, and truly am in a state of anticipatory euphoria. My luggage made it and only my cashew raisin mix was confiscated, and my bacon jerky. I am sad to loose the bacon jerky.

The next leg is to Punta, Arenas. I still have an hour in Santiago, so a quick journal to let everyone know that I have made it to South America, Oh my goodness I am so excited! Thank you everyone for following along on this once in a lifetime adventure!

Too keep everyone in the loop. I am able to see your great comments, and Yahoo John got an estimate on my carbon footprint. Sadly I am having some technical issues so am unable to respond to your questions at this time. Thanks Lisa, Max and the oceanography class. I hope to respond soon. Jillian

change over a longer period of time to an entire ecosystem. This about
your closet full of clothes. The jacket you put on today is for

Hi Tyler, There are great rooms on the boat. I have my own room, but here is a description on how to get out of a top bunk on a ship:
"Its not much different than getting out of a bunk bed on land,
although the pitch and roll of the ship in the water adds a level of
difficulty. You have to slide close to the edge and then perform a 180
degree turn so you can put your leg on the ladder, being careful to not
fall when the boat tilts in any direction. The other hard part is
deciding to actually take the covers off and get out of bed. -Nick Benz,

Hi Elise,
I am super glad you moved to the honors class. Let's see if I can get
you a new mentor while I am aboard the Palmer. I set foot on the Palmer
yesterday and will not leave for 30 days. I will have what I call
"rubber" legs when I next walk on land. Great questions, the southern
tip of South America is also in spring so it was a bit chilly in Chile
as well. hehehe. Elise, I think it is great to be different and
unique and feel free to write as much as you like! I love the
correspondence, it is great to hear your questions and comments.
