The Flag Quest

Ask and you shall receive! The request went out over four months ago. I enlisted the help of Facebook, my friends and the amazing networking capabilities of today's social sites. To date I have over 150 flags from over 40 states, three countries and over 25 just from Arizona. I might not have reached every state but I do feel quite successful in our goal of spreading the word.

Like scrolls, these flags represent an amazing group of individuals sharing the excitement of science
One hundred and fifty flags from around America and the world!

I leave in less than two days, the flags are still coming in and I could not be happier. Friends from my past, new friends. Students, children of previous students. Peers from work, people from the community at our “Pole to Pole” presentation.

If the number of flags is indicative of the individuals following along on this expedition, boy do I have my work cut out for me. On average, five flags will be highlighted every day and when we tie them all together, what an amazing sight the southern ocean will see, for we have brought the world with us on this journey of exploration, discovery and science.

From Texas to England, Russia, to Louisiana, I love all these amazing flags!

Hi Jaimee,
I have over 150 flags and if you look at the new pictures I have
started to highlight some of the flags. If I did the math correctly I
will have to show at least five flags a day to cover everyone while we
are at sea. I am super excited to have so many flags from so many
amazing locations.

When I first boarded the Palmer I found my "stateroom" I am super
lucky to have a room to myself. Now I am spending a lot of time
exploring, learning where everything is so that I do not get lost. This
vessel is over 300 feet so there are a lot of nooks and crannies.
Miss you all soon. Don't let Mr. Donoavn have too many "squirrel"

We have read your recent journal and are excited for your journey. We were brainstorming questions and came up with some good ones. How many flags are from other countries? if you have one, what is your favorite flag above all others? What is the most weird design you have seen? We miss you already, but we hope you have an exhilarating time!
