    Our expectations

Elías Barticevic, from the Instituto Antártico Chileno, asked us to write a paragraph about way we expect to get from this experience. Great insightful question. Since we wrote it in Spanish for Elías, this time the original post is in Spanish and the translation in english. We will add Anna, Claire and Luke's expectations once we see each other at the airport.

    Luke's Expectations

Currently our team is waiting to board our first flight going from Madison, WI to Atlanta, GA. Sitting at this nearly empty airport listening to ,"can you feel the love tonight" it is hard to imagine what the next two weeks have in store for us. In less than 5 days we will be walking on Antarctic ice and hopefully seeing little penguins waddle around. So at the forefront of this trip it would be a good idea to reflect on my expectations of the trip, and what I hope to get out of it. Trip-wise I am expecting the next two weeks to be full of completely new and awesome experiences. Whether it be talking with researchers or seeing my first penguins pretty much every activity will hold something new. I also expect to form many friendships between our group and Chilean students.
But in the long haul I think the things I will take from this trip are endless. First of all this trip will be a cultural experience like I've never had before. We will be dealing with people from all over the world but all with common interests. From these experiences I hope to have a clearer understanding on what part of scientific research I find the most interesting. Overall I have high expectations going into this trip and expect it to be one of best two weeks of my life!

    Anna's Expectations

I'm really excited to go to Antarctica, and I hope to learn lots of new things about science, the Spanish language, and the Chilean culture. I also hope to make lots of new memories to share with my family and friends. I would like to see penguins, try new food, and meet new friends. I'm excited to do the science projects and explore the island.

    Claire's expectations

For me, this trip is incredible because of the huge number of experiences I hope to get out of it. First of all, I am really looking forward to meeting and working with the Chilean students and researchers. I hope that these encounters will teach me about Chilean culture, improve my skills at working with a variety of people, and even improve my Spanish a little. Other than this, I hope to gain knowledge about Antarctica and the science there as well as a deeper appreciation for this unique continent. I am interested in pursuing a career in the biology, so I will value this opportunity to experience science in the real world. Overall, I hope to come out of this trip with a better understanding of both the world's cultures and its sciences.

    Juan's Expectations

I expect to collect memories from this marvelous experience that will allow me to understand better our fascinating world. I expect to make new friends and learn a lot from the Chilean students. teachers and researchers; I am amazed, at every level, about this project born in Chile. From the great organization by INACH to the complexity of students' research projects. I expect to see Anna, Claire and Luke grow with the experience, and gain a stronger footing in life. At last, I expect to share our experiences with as many people as possible so they can learn enjoying, or enjoy learning, about the wonders that our world offers.
