Currently in my junior year, I spent a semester of my previous year in high school at Conserve School, an environmentally-focused boarding school in northern Wisconsin. During my time there I studied a wide range of topics, including forestry, ecotourism, and Antarctic exploration, all while living alongside 60 other teenagers. With the run of the 1200 acre campus, my friends and I had lots of adventures while doing some exploration of our own. Being at Conserve was an amazing opportunity that I will cherish for the rest of my life.
In addition to science, I am also really interested in learning languages. This past summer, I participated in the National Security Language Initiative for Youth, through which I had the opportunity to travel to Seoul, Korea. There, I stayed with a host family and continued my study of Korean language at Sogang University. From my experience being immersed in Korean culture, I have learned so much about my own culture and navigating cultural barriers–skills that I hope to apply to diplomacy later in life. My first foreign language is Spanish, and I'm looking forward to being able to speak it with the Chilean teams. I haven’t been exposed to the same kind of immersion in Spanish that I have in Korean, so the prospect of travelling to a Spanish-speaking country is really exciting for me.
At Monona Grove High School, I participate in Model United Nations, a fascinating, challenging, and time-consuming activity. Model UN reflects many of my interests, and is very fun, yet very exhausting. Our school attends two conferences every year, one locally that is student-run, and a major international conference in Chicago. In the past, some of my positions have been Chair of the Security Council, Taiwan (for a simulation set in 1950), Libya in the International Atomic Energy Agency, and the Ambassador to the UN for the Pakistani Cabinet of Ministers. For our next conference, I will be representing the United States in the International Court of Justice. Model UN drives me to learn in a way that most of my classes do not, and has reinforced my love for learning about and understanding people around the world throughout high school.
JASE seems like the perfect combination of my interests. In Antarctica, I will be able to do science alongside peers from Chile, and I am very excited to learn about their science projects as well as their culture. Science and diplomacy are two things that I am deeply passionate about, and JASE will allow me to explore both.

Actualmente cursando el quinto año de bachillerato, estuve un semestre durante el pasado ciclo escolar en la escuela Conserve School, un bachillerato enfocado a estudiar el medio ambiente en el norte de Wisconsin. Estudié un gran número de temas muy variados durante mi estadía, entre los que se encuentran la silvicultura, ecoturismo, y exploración Antártica. Todo esto viviendo junto a otros 60 adolescentes en 1200 hectáreas. Tuve un montón de aventuras junto con mis amigos mientras explorábamos el campus a nuestro gusto. La experiencia de Conserve School fué una maravillosa oportunidad que atesoraré por el resto de mi vida.
Además de mi interés en ciencias,también estoy interesada en aprender idiomas. Durante el verano pasado participé en el programa National Security Language Initiative for Youth (Iniciativa para la Juventud sobre Idiomas en Seguridad Nacional), mediante el cual tuve la oportunidad de viajar a Seul, Corea del Sur. En Seul viví con una familia y continué estudiando coreano en la Universidad de Sogang. De mi experiencia viviendo en Corea, aprendí mucho sobre mi propia cultura y de como navegar las barreras culturales, habilidades que espero podere usar en la diplomacia más adelante en mi vida. El primer idioma extranjero que aprendí es el español, y espero con ansias poder practicarlo cuando trabaje con los estudiantes chilenos. No he tenido la misma oportunidad de immersieon lingüistica y cultural en español como la he tenido en coreano, por lo que la idea de viajar a un país de habla hispana realmente me emociona
En la escuela Monona Grove High School participo en Model United Nations (Modelo de las Naciones Unidas), una facinante actividad que me brinda grandes retos, además de consumir mucho tiempo. Model UN refleja muchos de mis intereses, además de ser muy divertida y extenuante. Nuestra escuela participa en dos conferencias al año, una local organizada por estudiantes, y una conferencia internacional en Chicago. En estas conferencias, he participado como Presidente del Consejo de Seguridad, Taiwan (para un simulacro de 1950), Libia en la Agencia Internacional de Energía Atómica, y el embajador de las Naciones Unidas para el Gabinete de Ministros de Pakistán. Para nuestra próxima conferencia, representaré a los Estados Unidos en la Corte Internacional de Justicia. Model UN me empuja a aprender en formas que ninguna de mis clases hace, y ha reforzado mi amor por entender y aprender sobre la gente del resto del mundo mientras curso el bachillerato.
JASE es la combinación perfecta para mis intereses. En la Antártida podré realizar investigación científica junto a estudiantes chilenos. Estoy muy emocionada de poder aprender tanto sobre sus proyectos científicos, como como su cultura. Ciencia y diplomacia son las dos cosas que me apasionan, y JASE me da la oportunidad de explorar las dos
