Departing Dutch

As the tugboat assisted the USCGC Healy to turn about in the harbor, the Coast Guard were lowering flags, untying and stowing lines, and piloting the ship. With cameras in hand, the scientists were active observers as the expedition got under way. The next stop will be the Bering Strait, 700 nautical miles away -- 3½-day transit.

Watch the Coast Guard in action. Look for humpback whales and birds as we leave the Aleutian Islands. The video ends with the scientists participating in safety drills including trying on survival and mustang suits. Scientist Susan Saupe contributed some of the pictures in the video.
