Polar Science

In May, I had the pleasure of holding a polar science workshop at Croce Elementary School in Livermore, California. Mrs. Smith, Mrs. Ferrucci, parents, and students were indispensable assistants at the program.

Student learned about PolarTREC, how scientists use ice core samples to find out about past climates, how blubber helps insulate animals from the cold, and how structures collapse when permafrost thaws. I'm happy to hear that the students enjoyed these stations and found the lessons interesting.

    Ready for Antarctica!

Students tried on extreme weather clothing that is issued to people who work in Antarctica. From a side view, some students took on a penguin shape!

    Polar Postcards

Students learned about animals found in the Arctic, and used this information to create post cards for me to mail back to them. Students, the postcards are now in the mail and will travel to you via Coldfoot, Alaska. Until the postcards arrive, send me a message by commenting on one of my PolarTREC journal entries.
