Halloween made its way to McMurdo!

    In the last few weeks, ghosts and spider webs mysteriously appeared in our lab and dorms. Sugar cookies in the shape of pumpkins showed up in the galley. Excitement was in the air as the station prepared for the annual McMurdo Halloween Party.

    Though we didn't have trick-or-treaters, pumpkins, or haunted houses, we had plenty of creative costumes. Sheets turned into mountains, lampshades into hats, and rags into shirts as people raided the skua piles and their dorm rooms. With a little help from wigs from the recreation department or props buried in suitcases, the creative juices were flowing as people transformed into crazy creations like beer gardens, mountains, punks, showers, happy campers, dorms, or other objects associated with our beloved harsh continent. After costumes were finalized with staples and duct tape, we packed into the gym here at McMurdo. Dancing until late into the night, we had a fun time. The creativity with the costumes was the best though the strangest part was the fact that it was still bright daylight at 1 am when we finally found our way to our beds.
